Simon Revisions

I have tried to make revisioning as easy and safe as possible knowing that not everyone is a computer nerd like myself, and that your Simon data is sacred and must be protected by any means possible. Nevertheless, you are not left without any concerns. That is why it is imperative that you follow any instuctions given so that there will be no ill effects from the upgrades that you do. So, please follow instuctions so that we are not required to get you out of a jam. Okay?

How to Determine What You Need to Download

Compare the [Instructions] Column below with your Simon revision number. You can find out what revision you are at in your Simon application by clicking on the Help menu and then choosing 'About this Software' from the drop down menu. The revision is listed there as highlighted by the olive area in the image below.



Be sure to download the file, or files, that you need to your hard drive--DO NOT TRY TO RUN YOUR REVISION DIRECTLY FROM THIS WEB SITE. Trying to run a revision directly from this web site will not work. You MUST choose to 'Save File' to your own computer, and then you will need to find the file on your computer, double click the file, and then unzip the file. Then, just follow instructions.

Caution: When you unzip and/or install the file(s) you download, be sure that Simon is closed. The reason is that any file that is 'in use' cannot be changed, which is the whole purpose of upgrading. When I use the term 'in use' this means that if the Simon program is opened on your computer desktop, it is 'in use.'


Latest Revision File

This is simply a file that has the sole purpose of moving you from an earlier revision of Simon Version 4 to the latest revision of Simon Version 4. It will not upgrade your Simon application from an older version, i.e., Version 2 or Version 3. If you are still at Version 2 or Version 3, the file you need is further down this page.

Older Version Upgrade Files

These files will upgrade your Simon application from either Version 2 or Version 3. Once you have upgraded from Version 2 or Version 3, you should never have to do either of these files again. The reason these files are larger than the one listed above is that there are more files packed into the executable (exe file). Also, there are some new files packed in there that will implement your ability to do emailing to your clients. Be sure to print and carefully read the instructions that are linked in the 'Instructions' area below. These files work more like an actual install than a simple unzip operation and you should protect your Simon application as the aforementioned instructions point out.

Simon Help File

I will normally replace the help files when doing revisions, however, the most current help file will be located here since I will be writing help articles continuously even, at times, without causing a new revision to happen. So, check the date here to see if your Simon help is up to date. If you think your help may not be up to date, then download and unzip this file. Downloading and unzipping this file will not mess up anything in Simon, so if you are doubt, just go ahead and do it.
